Michael - Just like I promised you, I have changed the site as to not "look
like yours". I hope that these changes are enough to set our sites apart.
To the rest of you - Do you really think that I would "copy" a site from a
person, and announce the site to the same list where that person in a member
and hope that it wont be noticed, and risk this kind of feedback and
jeopardize my employment opportunities? Believe me, I am so sorry that I
ever looked at Michael site to begin with. My plan was to create a quick
site to announce the fact that I am looking for work. I just got "layoff"
from a dot-com company like many around the country, and the last thing that
I needed was this kind of controversy. This, not doubt, will impact my
ability to secure a position from this list.
I know this is hard to believe, but "I did not copy Michaels site". I dont
know how it happen, but after I completed the site, and someone pointed out
the similarities between my site and Michaels, I had to ask for his URL to
go and check it out. Once I saw his site, I knew that I was going to catch
hell from the list. I can assure all of you that it was a pure coincidence
that they look "similar". Like someone pointed out, if you would have taken
the time to look at the "source code", the graphics, the fonts, size, color,
etc, you would have noticed that it was not a copy. The sites were similar,
but it was not a copy.
Considering that the sites are very small (only 3 pages), with minimal
content in each page, it is not difficult for them to be very similar. In
history, there are lots of cases where people have "invented" and/or
"discovered" things at about the same time, living in separate countries.
Did they copy each other, or it was just a coincidence? This type of things
happens all the time.
Some of you suggested that I have "no imagination", or "lack creativity and
integrity", or even suggesting that I should not be hired. All I can say is
that the people that know me, former employers, co-workers, etc, know that
it is not true. I have over 26 years in the computer fields, over 6 years in
the Internet business, and my body of work and knowledge speaks for itself.
This was an unfortunately incident, I am very sorry that it happened. Have I
noticed that my site "looked like Michaels" before I announced it, I would
have changed it. I did not want my site to look like somebody else either.
I hope this ends the controversy (enough bandwidth was taken already), and
all of us can get back to the reason of why we are all here, and that is to
find/offer jobs in ColdFusion.
Like I said before, I am still looking for work. If you like to take a
chance on me, you will not be disappointed, you will see that I can deliver
original and creative work. If this unfortunate situation prevents you from
offering me some work, that is life.
Regards, Ray.
