Plus you have to factor in cost of living, commute time, etc.  I believe mid 
level programmers can make 50-60 in other parts of the country (where the cost 
of living is not so high).

I heard that one of the major insurance companies (I think it was Geico, but 
don't quote me) said that out of their customers, DC metro drivers have more 
accidents than any where else in the country.  Given that I was just hit on 495 
2 months ago, and then about 2 years before that on 395, I can believe it.
