What type of load are you running? Sounds like you're running a smaller load
than we are. I would expect a backend site doesn't run a ton of traffic,
even if it was for a distributor as large as Marisel.
I also don't care if I have to reboot an Nt server every few hours if my
site is under load balancers and if I can handle more users.
Our code is pretty tight, certainly much tighter than it was even a few
weeks ago. We have even had Allaire consultants look at it who claimed our
code (before fixing) was tighter than most code they have seen.
It is still possible there is an architecture problem on our end. I'd love
to know it.. but we're talking things like under a straight html page
labeled .cfm takes over 200 milliseconds for startup processing and
shutdown. This was part of the test I ran to determine if it was the
webserver itself, the database, or the cold fusion server.
Thanks for the quick response!

Subject: Re: NT VS UNIX
I have to say CF on Solaris is better. Not because the CF is better but
because Solaris is. I have a site that's controlling all the client/sales
communications for one of Sun's 3 master resellers (Merisel) and its on CF
4.5.1. It's been up and running without a problem for the last 7 months. I'm
thinking of adding SP 2 and rebooting it in the next few weeks, but that
doesn't really seem necessary. I've never seen an NT box that can stay up
that long under load.
Now the real issue isn't CF or the OS, its the code. If your code is tight
then your set. My advise is to get someone to do a review on your site for
the code, the error logs (yep, you have to read them) and for the network
architecture. You'd be supprised what can lead to a slow or crash prone
site.
Oh, just as a small side note, CF on Linux rocks. :)
