When you mentioned the session state method, it sounded like a good idea, especially if it is faster than the cached query method. But I didn't know you could share the data amongst a cluster. Although, I guess query caching isn't shared across servers, but you don't need to write anything special to handle this because the query would just be refreshed if the user was bounced to another server during the same session.
