Generally speaking, the more features an application has, the slower it will
be.  Thus, we can say that the more features a database has (seeing as how a
database platform is actually just an application), the slower it will be.
It's a miracle that Oracle is as fast as it is :)

<sarcasm>Yeah, I mean why use this ColdFusion garbage when you can do it all
in Perl or Python for free.</sarcasm>

The more features *that you need* an application has, the better choice it
is. Access can be a great data source. So can flat text files. MySQL's
better than those though, isn't it. I mean, it's a lot more complicated than
text files, takes longer to write to the disk, but those features are
somewhat useful....
