Your right, it's not the same thing. I was using javaCast() wrong. I was
using "java.net.URL" as the type argument. I just tried your example and
it still returns the same error.

No, with javaCast() you get a Java string, with the code above you get a
Java url object, try to dump it and you should get a better idea
