XP Pro doesn't give you much in that situation. It does offer the use of
dual processors, an expanded "remote desktop" capability (which I use to
access my office laptop and my development server so it's essential to me,
but nothing that PC Anywhere or VMC wouldn't also give you) and some
security enhancements for the file system.

In general I'd go with Pro, but that's really up to you.

CFMX will run fine on any XP installation - however you'll be forced to use
(on XP Home) either the built in web server or something else (Apache is the
best bet, but there are others).

XP Pro comes with IIS which I use, but it's limited to one active site at a
time. You can configure as many sites as you like, but only one can be
active ("started") at a time. There's a great little taskbar tool called
"IISAdmin" that allows you to do this from a simply tray icon:

It's ever so slightly annoying, but much less annoying that trying to get my
company to install Windows 2003 on my laptop. ;^)

For what it's worth there's also quite a bit of MS software that will only
install to XP Pro. I don't think that SQL Server or Virtual Server will
install to Home, for example. So if you're using that software you might
want to check before you decide.

But in general XP Pro has been a great development platform for me. Right
now on my little Celeron 1200 laptop with it's paltry one gig of RAM I've
got CFMX, SQL Server, WebSphere 5.1 and MS Virtual Server Running... sure it
takes a while to boot, but whose counting when you've got that mush
functionality under the hood? ;^)
