Actually Adrian, HMS will be rolling out a new price plan with cheaper rates
for sql server on the lower end. Should be fairly soon not sure of the date as
of yet though or so an insider they has mentioned. If there is something you
specifaclly need they will usually accomodate you, just call and ask.
 just fyi~

Subject: RE: CrystalTech does not like negative comments!

Sorry to continue the thread(I'm not really, I have two accounts at CT!) but
one point I'd like to make is that CS is not like other factors in a hosting
package...

.....if you need more bandwidth you can buy a bit more, if you need more disk
space you can buy a bit more, if you want another database you can buy a
another one, if you want better CS you can b... oh wait... nope, you're
stuck!

The same is true of features. If you need CF7 and they don't offer it you'd
cross them off the list. Unfortunately CS is something that's harder to
quantify. If only you could get away with "I would like 20 units of CS
please, plus 5 more over the Xmas holidays"!

So after 1, 2, 3, 4... 60 posts, what have we learnt?

- CT have problems, so do most other hosts.

- CT offer more features than any other host I've seen(looking at CFMX 7.0
Intermediate here, MS SQL Server 2k, a fair amount of BW, a nice chunk of
disk space, please feel free to correct me on this).

- HMS are building a great rep judging by the amount of praise for them over
the last few months, in fact I've not heard a bad word against them.

- HMS costs a bit more. To get the one thing I want, SQL Server, I'd have to
go for the Ultra Developer package which is almost twice the price compared
to CFMX 7.0 Intermediate over at CT.

Does anyone want to add to this list?

So what can those of us that rely on these sorts of packages do?

Jump ship?

Not an option if you can't spend any more on hosting.

Complain, kick up a stink, tell everyone that'll care to listen about the
problems you're having?

I think this is acceptable, I'm sure the bad publicity this is generating
will have a larger effect on CT than if Connie & Co. just moved elsewhere.

What I would like to see is a larger range and/or more configurable hosting
packages. I don't mean the extras that you currently can add onto a package.
Instead how about the ability to only get what you want. I don't need the 20
or so custom tags installed, why shouldn't I pay less? I don't need 65,000
POP3 accounts, why shouldn't I pay less? I only used half of my bandwidth
this last month, I want some money back! It seems that most companies offer
the same range of deals, does anyone know any different(and I'm talking the
lower end of the market here)?

Give me CF, SQL Server, a select few custom tags and disk space and
bandwidth that I can specify and nothing else, all for a tiny weenie price
and I'll be happy on the features front :O)

So HMS, CT and Jared (if you're going to be helping out DigitalNorth with
their packages), if you're listening, can I get an Amen?! :OD
