Longevity is certainly a concern for any product line. MS can afford a lot more "loss leader" products than can other companies.
I would hope MS would continue along the path they're on, but there are no guarantees...as there are no guarantees that Adobe will continue with CF...that was a big concern for a lot of people when the buyout first occurred...
