Without the knowledge of the exact problem, it could be a virus. But if
it is a program then running the task manager will help identify this. I
had to recently clean a machine that the desktop icons would run away
any time you moved the mouse near them, and is the reason I made my
suggestion.

Usually those Gotcha programs disable themselves if you put the mouse in
the top left or right corner.  I doubt it's a virus, just a stupid
program made in VB or something.

You'll have to look in msconfig (regedit if your on 2K or NT) and remove
the program if it runs on startup.
