There's a function in VB (and other languages) to remove it's entry from the task manager, so that wouldn't necessarily work.
Another possibility is that it attached itself to a system program that runs on startup, which is what the system file checker is good for if your on win98. 2K and XP check system files automatically. You didn't say which OS is on that computer though. _____________________________ steve oliver senior internet developer atnet solutions, inc. http://www.atnetsolutions.com -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Scott [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Saturday, March 09, 2002 1:46 AM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: WAY OT: Virus or not GOTCHA Without the knowledge of the exact problem, it could be a virus. But if it is a program then running the task manager will help identify this. I had to recently clean a machine that the desktop icons would run away any time you moved the mouse near them, and is the reason I made my suggestion. -----Original Message----- From: Steve Oliver [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Saturday, 9 March 2002 5:40 PM To: CF-Talk Subject: RE: WAY OT: Virus or not GOTCHA Usually those Gotcha programs disable themselves if you put the mouse in the top left or right corner. I doubt it's a virus, just a stupid program made in VB or something. You'll have to look in msconfig (regedit if your on 2K or NT) and remove the program if it runs on startup. _____________________________ steve oliver senior internet developer atnet solutions, inc. http://www.atnetsolutions.com ______________________________________________________________________ Dedicated Windows 2000 Server PIII 800 / 256 MB RAM / 40 GB HD / 20 GB MO/XFER Instant Activation $99/Month Free Setup http://www.pennyhost.com/redirect.cfm?adcode=coldfusiona FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists
