Hi,
An open source CMS that really desires to offer a fully open-source web toolkit, must
be an inexpensive and good solution. The focus is on good though, it needs to provide
developers with a better/equal end product than you would end up with by purchasing
the system outright. Since CF isn't free, this automaticlly creates a situation where
this solution will be more expensive than one based on php, aolserver, even .asp. So
the focus is on quality, and a good/free/scalable database platform to drive
everything.
PostgreSQL is the most advanced open-source RDBMS available (I think). It supports
most of the ANSI SQL92 standard that Craig mentions, and it is increasing support for
the standard as it evolves. It provides transactions, efficient locking optimized for
web applications, and a pretty good interface for setup and administration.
I assume this has all been mentioned but since open source CF will inherently be more
expensive that the alternatives the focus must be on a really superior CMS/framework
solution, based on a good free DBMS, that makes the cost of the app server a
justifiable no brainer (while leveraging the capabilities of the app server, i.e. CF
6.0).
