It's an interesting point, but I guess when you have a paper book, you can
only lend it to one person at a time. If you post an eBook, then 1000
people can borrow it, and each of them cam lend it to 1000 others, etc.

The basic model for commercial eBooks has to be based on trust. You are
offered an electronic copy for not very much money at all. Virtually
everyone can afford to buy it, because they are not paying for printing and
distribution, etc. So everyone who wants it can pay the small amount, and
all the proceeds go to the author, so/she/they can keep on creating useful
and affordable resources.

If one person pays the minimal fee for the book, and then lends it free to
everyone, then the author ends up with a total of$7 as payment. Some people
might think that that is fair enough, but that certainly wasn't the basis on
which this particular book was written and published.

As Michael has pointed out, ePublishing is an experiment that attempts to
reduce costs, disseminate information, and benefit everyone. If people take
advantage of the experiment to avoid even the very small, very reasonable
price, then this is an experiment that will not be repeated, and everyone
will be the poorer.

Anyway, sharing the book was a nice thought, and quite natural given the
context (ie open source development). I guess it's the old Napster problem
all over. Let's hope this case doesn't end up in the Supreme Court ;-)

Good luck all, and God's speed,

LeeBB

Yes, your correct Lee. I was wrong to suggest that. But also it would be
just like letting some burrow a book I have. Have you not let someone burrow
a book from you?

Hey Shawn, I know it's an Open Source project, but that doesn't mean you can
just treat other people's commercial goodies as though they are public
property.

For free info on FuseBox, start with FuseBox.org and HalHelms.com, and of
course the [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list.

Either that, or pay $7 (each) for the eBook, or a little more for the paper
version.

Have fun and be good ;-)
