Thanks a lot Scott.   that's terrific.  Now do you think you could get
him to show us how to do it in a shared hosting evnironment, where you
dont have server administrator rights?

I dont have any of the 40 databases i look after on shared hosting
environments, over 4 different hosting company systems where i have
sufficient rights to do a backup myself.   The back up has to be done
by the system admin.

So you still can't use backup as a way to upload databases to the
remote server, or to download the data from the remost database to a
local server.

And you can't use backup to upload to a remote server across the
internet, only to a share across a network.

If Peter wants, I'd be happy to set him up an environment just like
thousands of shares hosted web sites, and say 'there you are - there's
your empty database.  Now show us how you fill it with your local
data."
