I did it in .NET once. A client side program, ran in tray.
Queried the DB every X seconds, to see if there were any invoices to be printed to this client printer, if so print them. It worked well, was real time invoicing, it required that PC to be on and have the invoice printer appropriately connected. Something in Air would work just as well.
