I think the problem that a lot of us have is that in a hosted environment (shared server) you rarely have any access to the administrator. Also, even if you do since you're in a shared environment only one user can create any specific mapping - so if two users try to set up the same application they may conflict.
Using the CustomTag path mapping may resolve the conflict, but there's still an issue with order of discovery: two people setting up the same set of CFCs (but, perhaps, two different versions of them) may conflict. Many (many!) of us are stuck on cheaper, shared hosting providers - at the very least for our personal stuff. CFCs are problematic (at best) in this environment - especially with no official suggestions from Macromedia on how to handle it.
