There are good, solid reasons for this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_total_health_expenditure_per_capita

We (USA, I mean - Canada is significantly better) get the least value
per dollar on health care of any country in the world.

Medicine needs the competition. And, at least, there is some solid
evidence that regular exercise and decent nutrition tends to gradually
improve health.

Of course, there's also plenty of shady scare tactics to deployed to
get you to spend your money unwisely. Ultimately, it's your call, and
all choices have potential problems, particularly if you are not the
sort to aggressively research the relevant evidence. (When going for
medical treatment, you should at least find
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_needed_to_treat for the
recommended treatement. You should also get a second and third
opinion, especially if you're being threatened with increased costs
and/or horrible health outcomes if you do not "buy now".)

Anyways, ... be very, very careful when what you're basing your
decision on is someone's scowl or similar pressure.
