I actually have 2 USB network dongle, a WIFI RTL 8187 and a HSPDA/3G network card. I was lucky enough that both run out of the box as soon as I plugged them in. Particularly with the HSPDA/3G card ... it even suggested the correct ISP/Network provider with the correct configuration.
About AVG, I was using their product before but they added new features that made things worse. My personal Windows XP laptop is currently using AVAST! Home Edition but I am trying out the "new" Microsoft Security Essential (Anti-Malware/Anti-Virus) thats being distributed freely by Microsoft on our "study" PC.
