Noooo, I shouldn't have to do that IMO.
I originally installed via the Ubuntu package as described here:
http://www.cherokee-project.com/downloads.html

I just did a -V check and they are all the latest 1.2.101

I really don't want to get into the whole manual compiling business. The
package should be robust enough.
