All the parts came from the same box from Thailand or whereever, I give up
on the repro business. I have had too many things be wrong or not near as
good as quality as the originals. The only stuff I go for now from the
repop houses are interiors (its vynal, how can you screw that up? Oh yeah
I've seen it done) and some trim. I ordered new wheelwell chrome for my 66
from NPD and they didn't fit right, especially the rears, I said screw it
and took the hacksaw to them and rounded them off, why cann't they make an
EXACT reproduction instead of a halfaxx reproduction. Its like a few days
ago I wrote Goodmark Industries about thier metal products, I wanted to know
if it was even close to what GM put out 30+ years ago. The guy wrote me
back saying this....
Our steel panels are as close to OE specs as we
can make. They are made overseas. The steel used is the same steel that is
used to make new car body panels. It is about as thick as the original, but
is much lighter. Steel technology has changed in the last 35 years. Many
of our parts are licensed GM Restoration parts, and meet GM standards for
fit and finish, and that's about as good as you can get.
That is pathetic. If I wanted as good as I could get I would try making my
own dangit!!! I want something that I can trust leaning up against or
sitting on without worrying that it ain't going to pop in and make a huge
dent!! That highly annoys me, Ok I'll shut up now I think I'm over it.
