Hey all fellow Chevelle lovers. I mostly just sit back and absorb all the great info. My question is: I have a '70 Chevelle Malibu and just approx. 2000 miles ago I built a 350 4-bolt main flat top pistons and home polished up rebuilt 624 heads an edlebrock manifold crane H266-10 cam edlebrock carb and stock manifolds with dual 2 1/4" exhaust. I notice when the car is warm and I turn it off for a little bit and come back and start it, it blows out a puff of smoke. I changed the oil at 500 miles and again at another 1500 after that. In the last 1500, it used 2 quarts of oil. (I used 10w-30 penzoil) I checked the plugs today at lunch and the #7 plug showed some signs of black (oil) on the top side of the plug (facing the intake valve) and a couple others had some very slight signs of black on the valve sides also. At first (before I checked the plug), I thought that maybe I could have broken a ring when I was installing it in the block because of the oil consumpsion. Now I'm wondering if it is in the valves or valve stem seals. I guess I should do a compression test also. What do you all think it is more likely to be. It seems to me that it is more likely in the heads, which I would rather it be, so I don't have to pull the engine. Any help is appreciated.
