That's correct Lance. And that's what Tom should put on his car for an original look.

Factory GM paint for that era was acrylic lacquer.  Acrylic Enamel didn't start until sometime in the mid 70's I think.

I agree and I like the lacquer finish over a 2 step base coat clear coat paint. I have seen many very nice base coat clear coats.  Still on a personal opinion think lacquer is just number 1 with a beautiful glass finish that cannot be matched.  But I also know lacquer is an unforgiving finish to chips, long term maintenance, etc., whereas the 2 step paints are just so durable.
