A short block is a complete engine minus the heads, intake, carb, dist, etc. It is basically the block, rods, crank, pistons, cam, etc. A long block is a short block plus the heads (still minus the intake & all the bolt on stuff) Don also, i have more questions - whats a short block, and whats a long block.  i know what is a big and small block, but whats a short block?  thanks                                                                                     Chad
