Don't I wish!  I don't think I had my camera then, and the only video I have of any car is some shots of the Corvette at Buttonwillow.

The only records from the Willow Springs trip are some notes.  I hand times two laps at the end of the day and got 3:36 for two laps.  taking that as equal times, 1:48 works out to 83 mph average.  Indicated speed in Turn 2 (470 foot radius sweeper) was 85-87 mph, which works out to 1.03G, but I think my speedo is 5% low...

Next time I do go to Willow Springs (they won't let me run the convertible Corvette without a rollbar) with the Chevelle, I will bring my video camera!

Hey Brad,

Would you happen to have any video of your car at Willow Springs?

I think a bunch of us have done it.  I have the Global West kit now.  I first did the swap to 11" brakes from a '79 F-body about ten years ago using the HO kit and junkyard parts.  That kit did not include upper control arms which made alignment difficult and dramatically increased tire wear.  In fact, the kit was basically an offset bar, ball joints, and a few other parts.  I got calipers, master cylinder, and the proportioning valve from the Junkyard.  Get a new master - not much more expensive, and less trouble to replace when it goes bad in a few months...

Now, you can buy a complete kit from Hotchkis or GW and not even have to get your hands dirty in a junkyard!  I can also vouch for the improved handling.  I've had the car at Willow Springs and can pull 1G in the long sweeper.  The Chevelle was actually about the same as a Saturn and a Miata for overall lap times.  I had the power, but they barely had to touch their brakes and could whip through the turns.

If you are doing it "Pro Street", then I would recommend an upgrade
while you do this.  There are kits and plans to swap in F-Body 11" and
12" brakes that will give you a big disk and improve handling.

Check out http://chevelles.com/techref/ftecref2.html and the links to
Hotchkis and Global West.  In fact, if you are going Pro Street, get
very familiar with these two companies because you will be buying stuff
from them.  I would recommend that you decide which of the two you like
better and stick with one.

As a generalization, Hotchkis likes bigger sway bars and softer springs,
and Global West likes stiffer springs and smaller bars.  Global West is
also older.  Talk to the tech guys at each about what you want to do and
see what your gut feeling is about them.  I am sure that it is easier to
"tune" the handling if you have parts from one of them.  Imagine asking
Hotchkis what shocks will go best with the Global West springs...
