I would use a different sealer to seal the seam. Silicone sealer and
steel don't get along. You will create rust where you use the silicone
sealer. Use a product like 3M 8505 - Fast & Firm. It fills well,
waterproofs and sets up to a consistency like factory seam sealer. It's
made for exactly what you are doing.

        Thanks to everyone for sending me the information on the correct
shifter hump for 68-72's with a console.  The hump welded in nicely.
I'm going to use straight silicone around the seam to water proof it.
