Nope, they adjust the gas. The air comes in through that big hole in the
top. (unless I'm grossly mistaken, I'm really not a carb expert).

I think those screws adjust air and not fuel and therefore counterclockwise
= more air = leaner.

To make the air fuel mixture more lean on my Edelbrock
performer 600, do I turn the screws clockwise or
counter-clockwise?  My guess is the latter, but I
wanted to double-check.
