Make sure the old tank is empty of gas and as much vapors as possible before dropping it. Might even consider running the car as dry as possible - possible sediment might be a consideration on how dry you run it with the engine. Naturally, disconnect the hoses and sender wiring before removing and maybe even flush out the tank with water if possible and let sit for a day or two with the cap off to help ventilate before dropping the old one.
A floor jack and either a thin piece of plywood or thick cardboard between the jack head and tank to spread the weight when dropping the old tank. A buddy helping to keep the tank on the jack would be nice too. What I did...was get the straps hooked on the non-bolted end....I want to say that I taped the felts to the tank, just at the end of them to hold them in place. Then I slide the tank under the car, and held it into place, and got one of the straps bolted up(loosely). Then got the other one bolted up, then tightened both up. It's pretty easy when there is no gas in it.... -----Original Message----- From: Frank Gondermann <f.gonderm...@comcast.net> To: chevelle-list@chevelles.net Sent: Thu, 9 Apr 2009 9:43 pm Subject: [Chevelle-list] 69 Chevelle Gas Tank I know this may be a very simple under taking but I thought I would ask the list anyway. I am about to replace the fuel tank on my 69 SS. I have new straps, rubber stripping, mounting hardware and of course the tank. Anything I should be aware of, i.e. difficulties etc. Please let me know, as this one thing I have never replaced before.
