Yes, I do everything online.  To get good content without pirating it, you still have to have some subscription services.  I have Hulu Plus (9 bucks), Netflix (8 bucks) and IVI.tv (5 bucks) subscriptions and get all the channels I want.  For seasonal sports, I only really follow football and baseball, so the free over the air HD broadcasts gets me most of that, but I did subscribe this year to NFL.com (cost me 30), but I get to watch any game from the whole season in full HD, plus I will be able to watch the playoffs and superbowl as well.  The only thing with online services is that you cant usually watch the programing live or when its broadcast...usually its a wait of about a day or so.

Now the kicker is how much do you watch?  My online usage averages 80 - 120 GB of download every month.  Most ISPs would crap their pants and cancel your service for using that much.  My ISP is a local broadband wireless provider and they are really cool.  I know that the cable providers usually cap your bandwidth usage at about 20 GB, I am not sure about AT&T DSL.  A quick google shows they don't seem to have a cap in place at this time, but might in the near future...

If you have any other questions, let me know.

larry -  I hope you noticed my wink in the original post.   No doubt DSL is a huge improvement.   I have no idea who Hughes is, but I believe I'm happy that they don't serve this area.    My wife is trying to convince me to go with cable internet (Suddenlink).    I'm not so sure,   I'm thinking that I'd rather cancel cable all together and get our TV 100% from the internet.   Anyone done that yet?

I know the feeling, we have WildBlue(Dish Network) satellite Internet and it is up to 1MB at times but generally slower!

You got that right.  And I'll bet you it will be faster. I'm still a prisoner of Hughes. No other broadband where I live.

The only special thing about the ATT DSL is that is it 3X cheaper than I was paying Hughes.
