I would do what's best for your lil one's -- not you. (Tough Love, lol). I leave Buddy with my brother and their Golden. He misses me at first, but then just has fun and is his most "dog-like" there. He runs and plays and barks. When I'm around, he doesn't get more than 2 feet from me.
I'm going on vacation this Friday and have to give up Buddy 2 days early because my brother's going to his MIL's cottage and won't be back until the day after I leave. I looked at several options so that I didn't have to give Buddy up so soon, but decided it's best for him to be with people (and dogs) he knows and loves. Since you have plenty of time until your vacation, I would be sure to spend lot's of time at your mom's -- and you should leave him there for longer and longer periods of time. Make sure you take his comfy things and something that smells like you (perhaps pillowcases?). He will miss you, but he'll be okay.
