crystal,
there is nothing you will do in preparing your dogs raw food that you aren't
already doing in preparing your kids chicken dinner...really. here is what i do
... the more ideas you hear the less scary it becomes lol...
ill buy (for the chi) (cause she is a baby and cant eat whole chicken with
bone) (yet) 10lb bag of chicken quarters, grind up bone and all. add one lb of
ground up chicken livers. mix very well. smash into ice trays and freeze whole
batch. next day pop into zipper bag and keep in freezer.. take out one cube
meat now to thaw for the next meal. done. feed 3x a day. or more as needed. do
this for a month than add ground beef to the mix of chicken bone and liver.
this is a perfect k-9 food and can me mixed up later to add a variety as you
find good deals on meats... also feel free to offer a whole chicken thigh after
4 months old ... outside or in a crate . i use a plastic place mat to feed on
she keeps clean! and i can wash as needed... no more or less a danger to people
than feeding your people. the longer you do it the easier it becomes and the
better at eating it the dog becomes... my danes donteven let the food hit the
plate! chomp chomp gone!

kibble sticks to dogs teeth as it is full of sugars... eating bone  cleans that
off.  if you "cook" for the dog you are doing better than kibbles but also
cooking away most of what she needs. feeding her cooked food in a bowl or
ground raw in a bowl is no different. its one bowl. to begin you can try a
tablespoonful of the next ground chicken you have in a bowl and see if its a
mess... even her mouth will have enzymes to "keep clean" dogs are made to eat
this way...i was as skeptic as you and watched my 14 yr old tiny toy poodle die
from a rotten mouth  and rotten gut from a life of kibbles ... i switched her
to raw thighs a week before she died and she loved it so much ...ill always
regret not switching her years earlier...my danes went from issues to none in a
few weeks after switching... ill list them if anyone wants..but they are
amazing now...
Darcy, ill never go back and i was just as worried as you ! BTW, you will make
as much "mess" cooking for the chi OR MORE than just feeding it to her the way
it comes.. no need to even wash it!! why contaminate the sink ? no need. i put
everything in a large stainless bowl mix what i want then freeze in trays...
wash out bowl, done. wash trays the next day. done. hope this helps
darcy =)~...

I researching raw feeding myself. I am not 100 percent comfortable with it yet.
However I did you tube the dog food plants. (Only when my kids went to play in
their bedrooms.)  Oh my! I was horrified! I have decided to cook all of my
chi's food while contuining to research the raw feeding. It makes sense.  But I
like you worry about the bacteria. I know that the dog's stomach is capable of
handling stuff ours isn't, but I also have children in my house. I know one
thing. I will NEVER use "dog food" again. I sure didn't know all of that.
Thanks,
Crystal

Well I try to feed my chi the best kibble that has no byproducts or stuff they
don't need. I know theres still risks and its still not the best I could feed
him. That's why I'm considering changing to a raw diet and I've heard it makes
their teeth so much better and the vet just told me he's gonna need another
cleaning and I hate putting him under. I'm just a little worried cause we would
never eat raw meat and I wouldn't feed my dog something I won't eat.

I can't speak for anyone else but for me I wouldn't feed any meat that was not
fresh and smelled right...if it's off at all I don't feed it. It has to be
something I would eat myself. With a processed kibble you still have all the
same worries you mentioned PLUS many more...kibble can be made with by-products
from a rendering plant...ya know dead road kill and diseased animals...not to
mention the rat and other rodent droppings mixed into the food because of the
deplorable conditions of the plants themselves. To me there is nothing
filfthier than a dog food plant!

I'm in the US. I was just naming the first ones that popped into my head. What
about other diseases found in raw meat? All of them are rare?

what country are you in lorena? ... we in the us dont see a lot of mad cow...
yet ... ugh... but as for samonela, dogs stomachs can "handle" a lot more than
people can, and with freezing washing proper refridherating you can keep most
meats fine. ... samonila just looks like diarrhea for te most cases... its rare
it is ever worse. they mose on... keep hydrated... im not sure you could even
notice a problem. now the runs in a chi can get bad fast so if you get loose
stool feed more bone and if you get hard stool feed more liver....

I've been reading all the stuff about raw feeding and it sounds like a great
idea. I just have one question. What about bad meat? Stuff that has salmonella
or mad cow disease? Has that ever been a problem? Do yall ever worry about that?
