here is what im doing tammy and im having  much luck... my "monster" is just 4
months old this week. when im away from home and she is not coming with me i
crate her, leaving 1/2 bed 1/2 pee pee pad in her crate...after she "got" the
bed was for sleeping and the pad was for toileting i leave the crate door open
with her tied on a 6 foot lead and a harness..the crate has the bed and food
and
water and the peepee pad i put in a litter pan with a low side for dogs...i
first placed a soiled pee pad there and had to catch her looking and walk here
there (doesnt help to carry them to the toilet ... ). then i leave her crate
and
litter pan (still without litter for now) with her tied to it right near my tv
chair so when ever i sit she can be on my lap. she gets free run of this room
only  when im here to watch her and she proves she is seeking her pan every
time... they confuse easy about whats allowed to count as a toilet,  we have
hard wood floors so with the pee pad being the ok place she has to now learn
that doesnt mean rugs or what ever else she might find that is on the floor...
thats why jumping into a box is better than a pee pad on the floor they learn
to
distinguish..carpet is even harder ....so far she is great at seeking out her
box for pee every time and is just this week seeking it for poo... ill keep ya
posted ! ... if you always want him to toilet outside AND he has a protected
area you feel is safe, my favorite set up with my yorkies that always worked
for
all of them, was a doggie door with a fenced area outside with pea gravel on
part and grass in part then little steps to the doggie door which when training
you just leave the flap off and praise them a few dozen times for going out
there and a thousand times for peeing! lol... in the beginning you can crate
him
with the crate door opening butted to the wall where the doggie door is ...
with
a bed in the crate and access 24/7 to his yard....they only have to get it once
and they have it for life..
darcy =)~...

Subject: [Chihuahuas] House training

Is it possible to house train Chihuahuas? We are having difficulty house
training our new chi. We take him out a lot, but he still has accidents in
the house. He is 1year old, but we have only had him for about 2 months.

Some people we have spoken to have told us that they can't be house broken,
and will always have accidents in the house. I find that hard to believe,
but we are new to the breed, though not to dogs. He is neutered.

Thanks for any information or advice.
