Not Deanna, but it has not been proven that they get more cancer if not fixed. I am not rigid and I can change my mind but I have yet seen it proven to be true either way. What are the chances of the cancer fixed or not? IMO that has more to do with heredity, genes and other things rather than a dog being fixed. People panic too easily. Sheila

I am so confused. This is not what I thought was true, I better do some more research and think about this again. I hate making decisions that can mean the life of my baby, I already lost one baby at 2 years old and I do not ever want to go through that again. I only want the best for my girls in every way possible. So I will look in to it. I kind of feel ignorant about everything now. It was like when I joined La Leche - a breastfeeding support group when my children were young. I do not know what I would of done without these wonderful women who guided me through all the pros and cons - mostly pros. But they made so much sense to me and that is how I feel about this group is we all have something special that we know about and can share to help make it a safer and healthier world for our babies that we all love so dearly. I live alone as most of you know and have some health issues so my little girls are my whole world. --- On Sun, 11/28/10, dasha <[email protected]> wrote: From: dasha <[email protected]> Subject: RE: [Chihuahuas] Spaying small dogs and brain damage from anesthesia To: [email protected] Date: Sunday, November 28, 2010, 3:53 PM I will read some tomorrow when I have more time. I have already read tons of articles on this. Each person has to do what they think is best. If you are not breeding then it is on that individual to make sure their dogs don't get preggers. Too many accidents already. I KNOW the main concerns are not brain damage. I think Dr. Symes is a good doctor but he is not the ONLY vet out there. There are pros and cons of everything you do, animals and humans. You just have to pick the lesser of 2 evils for yourself. _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Deanna Corey Sent: Sunday, November 28, 2010 5:51 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] Spaying small dogs and brain damage from anesthesia You really should read those articles I listed...the main concerns over spay and neuter are not brain damage...there is way more to it...really Dasha...it is worth reading them. Dr Symes doesn't even bring up brain damage...far MORE issues than that!!! As far as the spaying goes I was not saying that every dog should be spayed but that there is not a medical reason why dogs under 6 pounds can't be. The world is a big big place. People tend to only see a small corner. _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Deanna Corey Sent: Sunday, November 28, 2010 2:02 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] Spaying small dogs and brain damage from anesthesia Dasha...before you just say that I would really encourage you to do some reading about the new info coming out!!! You can start with www.dogtorj.com...there <http://www.dogtorj.com...there/> is TONS of info out there...but you have to look. There are MANY reasons to possibly opt for not spaying. Just like humans dogs will react differently. I have heard that if you don't spay them they can get uterine cancer and infections and all kinds of problems. I have had both my chi's spayed and neutered and it was all great. But now I have Maggie who I will have to decide on. So where do I find the facts on the brain damage information and the pros and cons.I have trusted and loved my Vet for the last 30 years but maybe I am blindsided.
