Christy...know that the reverse can be true as well. If your baby has food
issues...allergies that are causing his seizures and not the liver shunt then
the grains or soy can trigger them. I guess it is a catch 22. Get his tests
done
FAST and then submitt all the info to the Liver Shunt Mod...she can tell you
exactly what those levels will mean. Also talk to her about ALL the tests your
vet should give...not just the Liver Bile as it alone seems to not be the only
indicator.

Nuggets Liver Bile levels were normal but I could tell if I switched to any
grains at all his seizures increase....and fast!!! He got into my son's dogs
kibble...a high quality food but has brown rice and whamo...a round of seizures
within hours. If Nugget's seizures stay as they are...about 2 a month...i will
not put him on the phenobarb. There seems to be a honeymoon period for the drug
and things can change not to mention the affects of the pheno barb can be
pretty
nasty over the long haul too. We will see how it goes!!!!

This sounds bad but I am hoping for you it is a Liver Shunt issue as it can be
dealt with fairly easily and the prognosis is very good! Not knowing...after
spending the big bucks on tests makes me crazy. In our case we basically are
just playing a guessing game. The ONLY thing that has helped was Dr Symes
working through with me the G.A.R.D. diet and making those changes...the
seizures have dramatically decreased...but the monster still lives with us!
There are a few good seizure groups to join as well...especially if it turns
out
to NOT be the Liver Shunt issue. You can read what everyone has done...how it
helped and how it didn't and give you some direction and ideas to try...most
vets have one basic protocal...and while sometimes it does work...in the long
haul it can have other issues!!!
I will be praying for you and Keeper...this road is NOT a fun one!!!

Well, right now he isn't eating anything.  I am giving him nutrical and trying
to get him to eat the L/D.  I have to try the low protein for now until I can
get the bile test done.   If it is a liver shunt and I keep feeding him protein
his seizures will just keep getting worse.  So...until then its low
protein...if
the test comes back negative for liver shunt then I will go raw for him.  Did
nugget get his bile acid tested?  Did they say what caused his seizures?  How
did he act after his seizures?  was he still eating?  drinking?  Thanks

Christy...the low protein diet is ONLY if his seizures are a result of Liver
Shunt...if his seizures are a result of ANYTHING else a low protein diet can be
harmful...I would have him ONLY on low protein IF he is diagnosed for certain
to
have Liver Shunt. If he does not...then get him on a raw diet. Raw is what
really lessened Nugget's seizures...Nugget does not have liver shunt.

food he will get too much protein and it will make his body toxic.  I do have
lactulose and an antibiotic.  But he had another seizure tonight...I am very
worried for him.

Shanna, do you know why?  The baby food chicken or things like that won't hurt
the dog I don't think
