Dolly & Desi have the free run of the house when I am home…Well, I do keep the
extra bedroom doors closed and the bathroom doors closed. They are sleeping
very sweet next to each other right now. They will play on my bed, in the
living room, the foyer, the kitchen nook area. They have little beds almost
everywhere! I have two of each but lately they are always in the same one
together. God is giving me some peace today so that I can get things done. As
soon as I finish this email, I am going to eat something and then spend some
cuddling time with them later. Tomorrow they go to Honor Camp! I want to make
a little Happy Birthday sign (on paper) that they can hang by Dolly on Friday.
I know she has no idea and I put her birthday dress on today and took a few
pictures. Even she didn’t want to sit still.

No accidents, he uses a litter box. I don't give him full run of the house
because I have too much stuff in the house which is furnished with antiques and
lots of nick nacks. There are nooks and crannies where he might get stuck,
things he migh tump over or break, too many opportunities for trouble. Besides,
my computer and large TV are in the den, so I spend most of my time there.

Gloria I am curious to know as to why he isn't allowed full freedom of the
entire house? Is it because he still has accidents?

Both my girls have full freedom all the time. Neither chew things that they
aren't suppose to, nor do they go into the garbage. Princess would hold it in
for 12 hours if she had too. Gigi was like that too before she had those
seizures. Now she sometimes forgets at night, so I put a diaper on her at night
and whenever I go out. It gives her full freedom and she never wets the diaper,
so as soon as I get up in the morning or come home I put her on the pad and she
will immediately go.

Is she always kept in the pen? Why? You can set perameters but give her an
opportunity to be in a larger open space. I stopped keeping Emiliano in the pen
as soon as he learned to use the litter box and stopped chewing on things. The
pen is still up and I put him in it when he is uncomfortable with visitors
(workers,. the cleaning lady, small children) and at night when he goes to
sleep in his tent, which is also in the pen. The pen is his safe place and he
is comfortable there, however, at all other times, he is free to roam our large
den and hall, my kids call the den Emiliano's room, but he is not allowed to
roam in the rest of the house (a door divides the den area from the rest of the
house). If I am at home, he is allowed to be with me in any room but is kept
out in the den when I am not at home.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Crying and Barking in play pen

Hello, I have a question about Gigi. I keep her in a playpen with toys
litterbox and an open crate. Almost everyday she has a few instances where she
cries and barks to get out the playpen. I have been ignoring these episodes
because I don't want to train her into thinking crying will get me out of the
pen. They only last about a minute or so. Am I doing this right? Should I do
something else when she barks in her pen?

Thanks Emberly
