I had Norton on my first lap and had the same problem. It always said that I
didn't have anything wrong with my lap. Yet it kept freezing and crashing
constantly. Finally the Blue Screen of Death came up. That lap was loaded
with virus's. I will never use Norton again, it didn't prevent virus and
worms and stuff from infecting you computer, it only tried to clean them out
once they were already on your puter, which is another reason why it ran so
slow and froze, and crashed. My sister and my son also had Norton and hated
it and had nothing but problems with it.

I started using Norton 360. When I took my computer to Geek Squad in
October, they told me that I had numerous viruses. Of course, I became very
upset at Norton. I did live chat with Norton and they told me that they
have a power eraser tool on their website. The tool will remove any viruses
or malware that may have been on the computer before the Norton got that
virus on its list. I used that and it came up that I had none. Then one of
the supervisors went through all of the files to check for viruses and there
were none. The next day I took it back to Geek Squad and told them that
they had to tell me which viruses it had. The agent was very rude and said
that there is a file on the computer that would give the names.
I got home and first called Toshiba to find out what would cause the problem
that I was having and they told me to do a new BIOS update. When I woke up
later, I started to read the ‘file’ on my computer and nothing in it made
sense. It said that I had Windows Vista in one place and that I had Windows
7 in another place. It said that I didn’t run Microsoft updates and a bunch
of other things that just were not true. After I read that, I went to the
Geek Squad website and the agent there checked my computer for viruses and
then he asked where the file was that they put the report. I told him where
he opened the file and then he wanted to know where the rest of the reports
were. I told him that was it. He then connected to one of their computers
and found that even in the file that was saved online there was only one
report…and that diagnostic that they used has not had any updates since
before Windows Vista. They were supposed to run 6 or 7 diagnostics on my
computer and the only one that they ran was one that was way outdated.
Got a little off track, but contact the antivirus company and they may have
a similar tool to Norton that will find and erase any viruses.

I used to use AVG until I got some viruses that it didn't catch. I've
switched over to Avast. They have a free download, seems to work alright.

So sorry that had happened to you.
Today I was looking at something and a bunch of ad-type pages popped up and
I had a difficult time clicking to close them. Maybe that was the same
thing?
Too many mean people out there doing this sort of stuff…afterall, what would
they get out of this except for laughs and giggles? So mean…I really wish
someone can stop these things before you get them.

WARNING: PLEASE READ FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY!

This sucker is a horror!!! I haven't a clue how I got it, or why AVG didn't
prevent it from getting on my lap to begin with. The last thing that I was
on was MSN free games, and to be honest, that's where I think I got it from.
I left my lap for a couple of minutes and all soughts of things popped up on
my desk top. If you see this warning pop up on your desktop.......DO NOT
CLICK ON ANYTHING, EXCEPT TO IMMEDIATLY STOP IT FROM SCANNING YOUR COMPUTER.
QUICKLY CLOSE ALL WINDOWS.

It will say "Vista Security 2012 Firewall Alert" It is BOGUS!!! It will
take over your Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. It will block your
Security from opening to do a scan. It will take over your Browser so you
can't search for a fix or click on anything. All you will see in your
Browser is a warning to do a scan or buy the BOGUS "Vista Security 2012
Firewall Alert"

I didn't go to bed until 7am this morning trying to get rid of it. I finally
found a back way to open up AVG and scanned, that took 1 and 3/4 hours and
it said everything was safe! But the bugs were still popping up on my
desktop and I still couldn't troubleshoot the web to get rid of it.

You will see about 9 Bogus Windows open on your desktop, all have the
Windows LOGO, all appear to be genuine. One even list all the supposedly
virus's, worms, Trojans, etc that you have and list the names of them and
what components and files it has supposedly corrupted. Another one will say
that you have been hijacked. Your Windows defender and firewall will pop up
and show that all security is turned off and it will not allow you to change
anything unless you click for it to scan and accept it's Bogus service. DON
T CLICK ON ANY OF IT, JUST X OUT OF IT.

Go into Start, click on INTERNET EXPLOYER-NO ADD-ONS, (the bogus Vista
Security can't get on that, because you don't have any add-ons to allow it
on). Go to Cnet and download 'Malwarebytes Anti Malware" It is a free trial
and the only software that got it out of my system. I tried 2 other
softwares and they didn't find anything. Malwarebytes scanned for a lot
longer then AVG does and it scanned a lot more objects. During the scan,
Malwarebytes said that it was being blocked and I had to click 'quarantine a
couple of times, so don't leave your computer while it is scanning. My full
scan was 2 and 1/2 hours! But it found 7 infected objects and got rid of
them all. I intend to keep it on my lap.
