I have received some emails - automatically put in my junk mail folder - that looked very authentic from Microsoft. I didn't open them, but just viewed without opening. I usually check all the email addresses before I open anything, and it is appalling how many emails have authentic looking logos and are actually fakes. I have reported numerous emails to banks.but they are always from one of my banks. That tells me that somewhere in the banking world of these banks there is someone who is doing these and also has access to the email addresses of customers.
About a month or so ago, I had the virus that sends emails with only links to everyone in your address book. That one is easily stopped by changing your email password. But, there are many people that could have already clicked the link and that makes the pool of computers to put at risk larger and larger every day. Are you going to get a different virus software? I was just wondering because you were unable to contact them. I go the Norton 360 because Consumer Reports did a rating on anti-virus software and it rated very high, even higher than Kaspersky, and also the regular Norton. I had very nice people (although they were from India) help me on live chat and check out everything. I know for future that I just need to run the power eraser tool if I have a virus, or suspect a virus. They are up-to-date all throughout the day and as the new definitions are added to their database they are also downloaded to my computer program. I sure hope that everything runs smoothly for you now. Please Read!!! Thanks Joan. It sure took a lot of time to get rid of it. I have had the free AVG for two years now, and it has been fantastic. I can't even tell them because it is free and don't have access to their tec support. Had I clicked on any of those warnings and believed it to be the real thing, I would have lost my lap, because then it would have had full access to everything. These people that do that are solely out to find personal information so they can have access to your checking accounts, etc., and cause identify theft. From the looks of the IDs and names of the Trojans it was from India, as usual. They say that is where most of the real hackers come from that try identify theft. What you experienced was not at all what I had. When it takes you a long time to get onto or off of a site especially with ads, it is usually because it is trying to put a tracking device on your computer. Every night I delete my browsing history, now I am going to do it each time I get off of a site. That gives them much less time to get hold of my IP address and keep tracking me for the rest of the time that I am on my computer. I already changed a bunch of passwords and now I have some more not so important passwords to change. Tomorrow, I am going to do a back-up which I haven't done in a long time. The last one took almost 6 hours, what a pain, but I want to clean out as much junk as I can and then do a good back up. My Favorites are off the wall, LOL, I need a computer just for them! I may not be on for a couple of days because of doing all of this stuff. In fact, I am probably going to go no mail for all my groups. I can always get caught up on the group page. I will say this, Malwarebytes was something my son had told me to keep on my lap. It was totally free at that time, but because I didn't feel a need for it, I removed it, now you only get a 30 day free trial and then a one time charge of 25.00 if you want to keep it. It was a good thing that I had the 2nd Explorer-No Add-Ons, or I would have been totally useless, and the lap would be in the garbage. Just thought it was the right thing to do and warn everyone. Guess it doesn't seem to matter to others. If you Google for it, there is a lot of complaints and Microsoft should really do something about, considering the fact that it shows the real Windows logo on all of its pop-ups and looks so genuine. -------Original Message------- From: Joan Croft <mailto:[email protected]> Date: 1/12/2012 9:04:55 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [Chihuahuas] Watch Out For a Vista Virus!!! Please Read!!! So sorry that had happened to you. Today I was looking at something and a bunch of ad-type pages popped up and I had a difficult time clicking to close them. Maybe that was the same thing? Too many mean people out there doing this sort of stuff.afterall, what would they get out of this except for laughs and giggles? So mean.I really wish someone can stop these things before you get them. Please Read!!! WARNING: PLEASE READ FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY! This sucker is a horror!!! I haven't a clue how I got it, or why AVG didn't prevent it from getting on my lap to begin with. The last thing that I was on was MSN free games, and to be honest, that's where I think I got it from. I left my lap for a couple of minutes and all soughts of things popped up on my desk top. If you see this warning pop up on your desktop.......DO NOT CLICK ON ANYTHING, EXCEPT TO IMMEDIATLY STOP IT FROM SCANNING YOUR COMPUTER. QUICKLY CLOSE ALL WINDOWS. It will say "Vista Security 2012 Firewall Alert" It is BOGUS!!! It will take over your Windows Defender and Windows Firewall. It will block your Security from opening to do a scan. It will take over your Browser so you can't search for a fix or click on anything. All you will see in your Browser is a warning to do a scan or buy the BOGUS "Vista Security 2012 Firewall Alert" I didn't go to bed until 7am this morning trying to get rid of it. I finally found a back way to open up AVG and scanned, that took 1 and 3/4 hours and it said everything was safe! But the bugs were still popping up on my desktop and I still couldn't troubleshoot the web to get rid of it. You will see about 9 Bogus Windows open on your desktop, all have the Windows LOGO, all appear to be genuine. One even list all the supposedly virus's, worms, Trojans, etc that you have and list the names of them and what components and files it has supposedly corrupted. Another one will say that you have been hijacked. Your Windows defender and firewall will pop up and show that all security is turned off and it will not allow you to change anything unless you click for it to scan and accept it's Bogus service. DON'T CLICK ON ANY OF IT, JUST X OUT OF IT. Go into Start, click on INTERNET EXPLOYER-NO ADD-ONS, (the bogus Vista Security can't get on that, because you don't have any add-ons to allow it on). Go to Cnet and download 'Malwarebytes Anti Malware" It is a free trial and the only software that got it out of my system. I tried 2 other softwares and they didn't find anything. Malwarebytes scanned for a lot longer then AVG does and it scanned a lot more objects. During the scan, Malwarebytes said that it was being blocked and I had to click 'quarantine a couple of times, so don't leave your computer while it is scanning. My full scan was 2 and 1/2 hours! But it found 7 infected objects and got rid of them all. I intend to keep it on my lap. Peggy & The Girls
