We have had a a couple of cases of West Nile here too. Those buggers seem to be all over the US. I have been hearing daily on the news that Dallas if having a real hard time of it and many deaths have occurred. Heard that the population didn't want to have to use insecticides, but when people are dying what choice do you have? So now they have been spraying. They sprayed here a couple of weeks ago too.
How awful that dogs have to die or be euthanized for rabies, when all they need was a vaccine to prevent it. A lot of places now give free rabies shots. It is the law in all states that pets have to be given the shot. The problem is that shelters who pick up strays, won't spend the money to give them a rabies shot unless they are being adopted or rescued. That means that the shelter leaves itself wide open for an epidemic, yet they make it a law for owners to have there pets inoculated. Why is a Town or a State shelter immune from the law? Such hypocrites!! -------Original Message------- From: ann banks Date: 8/19/2012 9:04:01 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] Flea Control I bathe my dogs in Dawn and use Comfortis for fleas that I get from vet. Been using it for over a year it and no ill effects. It is a monthly pill. We also sprayed our house with spray from vet and treated yard with Seven dust a year ago--no more fleas. I also put Avon Skin So Soft on them to repel mosquitoes and I have done this to my pets for many years and vet agrees that it works. WE used it in Florida Everglades and nary a bite. I spray a tiny bit in palm of my hand and then rub on dogs. We have had a death from West Nile Virus a week ago on a man who lives about 45 minutes from us. Also dog with rabies discovered in our town and several people being treated dog was euthanized. I have gotten bit by a fleas in the past and I can tell you those bites itch for atleast 2 weeks no matter what I tried to stop the itch, then one day my sister told me to try washing the area with Dawn detergent and the itching finally stopped! Could be she has old bites, and it will take a while for her to stop itching. It could also be a food allergy, laundry soap or softner reaction, or maybe she is allergic to the clove or peppermint oil. You could give her a bath in the Dawn, you are better off diluting it with water in a spritz bottle, but don't use a lot of the Dawn and shake it real good, then spray her, rub in lightly and rinse 2xs. I did that once for Princess and she stopped scratching, since then I use the Advantix and no fleas or ticks. If she stops scratching and then you use the peppermint and clove again and she starts to scratch then you know she is allergic to it. I started off with Vets Best Flea and tick killer which controls and prevents fleas and ticks. It is a natural product that contains clove and peppermint oil. Very soothing to for the dog I used it several times a week. Occasionally I saw a dead baby flea. Never saw any live or adult fleas when I combed her. However Liza was still itching. So I added Zodiak Flea and Tick preventative A spot on treatment that has less chemicals. She still occasionally itches. There is never any flea dirt or dead fleas anymore but why does she still itch herself at times? Maybe she had a flea allergy but no skin is inflamed. Any thoughts? -- Enjoy this day God has given it to you
