Hello Gloria, Thank you for your e-mail.
Before I had some connection-problems and couldn’t see the photo of Emiliano. But now I could see it. What a lovely cute Chihuahua, with his bandana. So Beau is a Poicephalus. I do not know much of that parrot-group. But your Beau is a beautiful bird. And he seems to be very smart too, because of what he says. I must say it’s sad that he missed his “Dede” and dog “Ginger” and asked for them for such a long time. It’s touching too, isn’t it. What a pitty he probably saw his Dede as his parner and because of that you as a threat. At least he has a cage with many toys. I’ve not experienced any bashing and racist overtones at the parrot-groups I’ve joined yet. I wouldn’t like it either though. But my experience is that there are a lot of nice people at those parrot-groups. It’s such a pitty you had thes negative experiences and desided to leave the parrotgroup you used to join. Both my Chihuahua’s are about 4 kg, very large. I had to go to a convetrter-sit to see how much 6 lbs 8 oz is. It’s about 3 kg, so your Emiliano weights about 3/4 of each of my female Chihuahua’s. I must say, it doesn’t matter that my Vicky & Lisa are this large. If they would have been smaller the balance between them and my cats and them and my birds would be not that practical. Now they are just right for my situation. I bought Lisa when she was 13 weeks old. She was the oldest of Vicky’s first litter of 3 pups. The owners had sold the 2nd. borned pup and kept the 3rd. borned pup themselves because that one was soooo small. Then they said they would sell Vicky too and I found out she mated at the age of 12 months and her litter was born when she was 14 months. That did upset me because she was much to young to get puppies. That’s why I desided to buy her too. She would be freed from getting litters and she and her oldest daughter Lisa would be together for the rest of their lifes. My vet was angry too, that Vicky had her litter at this young age. She should have been at least 2 years old to mate for the first time. Then just got tired of the male bashing and racist overtones, so I quit. I am diabetic and Beau bit me on my hand and caused an injection that took a long time to heal. Now, I am scared of him and he knows it. His behavior changed when my husband died, I told my kids, who thought I was crazy, that he was angry because he thought I had gotten rid of his "Dede". For the longest he would ask "where's Dede", then did the same when his Dede's dog died, asking "Where's Ginger".just five or so months later. I explained to him over and over that they were gone and not coming back. He finally seemed to accept it. I have a perch with a plastic shield to cover my hand but now his wings are grown out and I would have trouble putting him back in his cage. He has a huge cage with loads of toys and seems to be happy. We just have learned to interact differently. Emiliano will be 4 in November and I got him when he was 8 weeks old and weighed a half of a pound. I was told he would mature at 3 lbs but he now weighs 6 lbs. 8 oz and the vet says he's not fat. I thought you had seen the photo of him that I posted when I welcomed you or at least I though I had.. Here's another. by the way, Beau is a red bellied Poicephalus Gloria
