*CORRECTIONS AND ADDITIONS TO THE SECOND ISSUE OF THE GUIDE*** *Local distributor of the Guide* Rabbi Shimon Greenfeld, 1 Kew Gardens Drive, (732) 364-7576. In addition, near the Yeshiva there is Rabbi Aaron Quinn, 606 6th St. 732-901-7949. In both places there is a box outside the door from early morning to the evening. Put the money in the designated envelope or under the door. *Section 4.1 Cakes, cookies and crackers* *ב **Kemach* Whole wheat crackers are Yoshon and have a Yoshon label. Other cookies and crackers are that contain malt but no oats are Yoshon at least until malt becomes a problem. For Kemach flat bread, the tentative Chodosh code is Jan 2 2013 (13 months after production). This may be updated to a later date in the future. Kemach bread sticks are Yoshon the entire season. The mashgiach for all Kemach products is Rabbi Nussen Horowitz. *Section 4.2 Pretzels* *ד **Herr* pretzels *א **Liebers* pretzels that contain oat bran and barley are Yoshon. These ingredients were stored from before the time that the Chodosh season began. Under the hashgocho of Rabbi Weissmandl. Liebers Honey Wheat pretzels are Yoshon. *ד** Utz* honey wheat pretzels may be Chodosh starting Aug 15, code Dec 5 2011 (16 weeks after packing). *Section 4.6 Matzos* *ב **Kemach* matzos, matzo meal including spelt are always Yoshon under the hashgocho of Rabbi Nussen Horowitz. *Section 5.1 Noodles and pasta* *ד **Barilla* pasta. Some people have received 10 pound packages of Barilla pasta whose code does not match the code in the Guide. Call the company at 800-922-7455 to ask if the code on your package indicates whether it was packed before Aug 22 and would be Yoshon, or on Aug 22 or later and may be Chodosh. *ד **Columbia* pasta. The Guide gave Chodosh codes based on “Best if used by” dates. If no such date appears on the package then the Chodosh code is 1234 (1=Year, 234=day of the year). *ד **Mother’s *noodles and pasta Chodosh code 2342 (234=day of year, 2=year+1). *ד **Ralph* pasta, Chodosh code Aug 21 14 (3 years after packing). *ד **Rice Select * pasta, look at manufacturing date under the best if used by date. Chodosh Code: 082211 (Aug 22 ’11). ד *Ronzoni, Catelli* and *Lancia* from Canada, pastas other than regular white pasta the code should be Sept 1 13 (2 years after packing) *ד **Stop & Shop* pasta Chodosh code Aug 21 13 (2 years after packing). *Section 5.2 Chow mein noodles* *ב **Kemach* Chow Mein Noodles have a Chodosh code of Aug 30, code 3011H (30=day, 11=year, H=Aug in alph order.) *Section 6.1 All purpose white flour* *ד **Krasdale *all purpose flour Chodosh code Aug 15 12 (1 year after packing). *ד **Stop & Shop* white all purpose flour Chodosh code Aug 15 12 ( 1 year after packing). *Section 6.2 Whole wheat flour* *ד **Trader Joe* white whole wheat flour, the correct code I Aug 15 ’12 (1 year after packing.) *Section 6.3 High gluten flour* *ב **Kemach* high gluten flour is Yoshon, including the malt. *Section 6.5 Cake and other mixes* *ד **Aunt Jemima* whole wheat pancakes Chodosh code Aug 15 12 (1 year after packing.) *ד **Duncan Hines* mixes. Brownies and muffins have a Chodosh code for wheat of Feb 15 ’13 (18 months after packing). All other items except cookies have a Chodosh code of Aug 15 ’12 (12 months). Cookies can be either 12 or 18 months, call the company about the cookie of interest to you. *Section 6.6 Baking spray* *ד **Glick’s Baking Spray* that contain wheat, the Chodosh packing date is Aug 15. For the code look at the numbers stampled on the package the 9th to the 13th digits are of interest. For Aug 15 these would be 2271 (227 day of the year, 1=year). *Section 7.1 Barley* *ד **Stop & Shop* pearled barley, Chodosh code Aug 15 12 (1 year after packing). *Section 7.2 Bread and corn flake crumbs* *ד **Jason* bread crumbs. May be Chodosh if packed starting Aug 15, code 2273 (227=day of the year, 3=year+2). *Section 8.1 Cereals* *ד **Barbara’s *cereals: Cereal Bars: Chodosh code April 21 12 (9 months after packing), Peanut Butter and Chocolate Puffins: March 22 2012 (8 months after packing). *ד **Cascadian Farms* For items using oats the Chodosh packing date is Jul 26. The codes for oats are: Cinnamon Raisin Granola Mar 30 12 (248 days after packing), Purely O’s: Apr 30 12 (279 days after packing), Hearty Morning, Clifford Crunch, Oats and Honey Granola, and Honey Nut O’s: May 31 12, (310 dats after packing). Multi Grain Squares: June 20 12 (310 days after packing). For wheat the Chodosh packing date is Aug 15, code May 20 12 (279 after packing). *ב **Kemach *Cocoa Munchies cereal does not contain wheat starch nor any other wheat product. Therefore, it is Yoshon at least until the malt may become a problem in December. *ד **Kashi* Granola bars Chodosh code is Jul 26 ’12 (1 year after packing.) *א **Kosher Mills* oatmeal cereals are Yoshon under the hashgocho of the Badatz of Yerushalaim. *ד **Malt-O-Meal *cereals, the oats Chodosh date is Oct 1 according to the O-U. Toasty O's code: Jun 1 12 (8 months after packing). Flavored oatmeal packets code: Oct 1 12 (1 year after packing) Quick oats, Original instant oatmeal Apr 1 13 (18 Months after packing) *ד **Quaker* cereals. According to the O-U, the Chodosh starting packing date for oats in cereals by General Mills and Malt-O-Meal is October 1. The COR of Toronto has informed us that for Quaker cereals the oats has become Chodosh starting Sept 27 and for oats produced in the USA, the starting date is Nov 14!! Remember that this only applies to oats in the cereals. If the cereal also contains wheat, whether wheat starch or also wheat products, the wheat starting date may be earlier, Aug 15, as noted in the Guide. (Unless informed otherwise by reliable sources, our recommendation the Chodosh oats starting date for other companies remains the chumra estimate of Jul 26.) To get the corresponding product codes, refer to the Quaker table in Section 8.1 For the Canadian oats date of Sept 27 changes as follows: 180 days-Mar 25 ’12. 240 days-May 24 ’12, 270 days-Jun 23 ’12, 360 days-Sept 21 ’12, 540 days-Mar 20 ’13. For the delayed oats date of Nov 14, the table should be modified as follows: 180 days-May 12’12, 240 days-Jul 11 ’12, 270 days-Aug 10 ’12, 360 days-Nov 8 ’12, 540 days-May 7 ’14. *ד **Stop & Shop *cereals. Boxed cereals containing oats: Jul 26 12 ( 1 year after packing). Boxed cereals containing wheat but no oats - Aug 15 12. Oatmeal: Jul 26 12 *Section 9.1 Frozen and other packaged foods* *ד **Apollo *frozen dough the Chodosh code should be Aug 15 ’12. *ד Gefen* won ton wraps Chodosh code ##11H (##-first two numbers not important, H=month in alph order, other characters not important) *ב **Kemach* pie crusts. The Chocolate pie crust is always Yoshon as stated on the label. For the Graham Cracker pie crust the wheat is always Yoshon. The malt may be Chodosh starting a packing date of Dec 15 code Dec 9 ’12 (360 days after packing.) *א **M&N Cuisine* frozen products are Yoshon under the hashgocho of Rabbi Teitelbaum, the Nirbarter Rav. *ד **Mother’s *graham cracker pie crust. Code: 2272 (227-day of year 2 year, 1 year after packing) *ד **Pepperidge Farms* products Chodosh code 8-15-12 (1 year after packing. *א **Smackin Good *pancakes are Yoshon, under the hashgocho of Rabbi Weissmandl. *ב **Unger* filo dough Chodosh code 11298 (11=year, 298=day of the year.) *Section 9.3 Soups and soup mixes* *ב **Kemach *minestrone soup mix the Chodosh code is 2583 (258=day of year, 3=year+2). For vegetable soup mix the Chodosh code is 2563. *ד **Kedem* soup mixes, the corrected code should be 12281 (1=year, 228 =day of year, 1=not important.) *ד** Rokeach soups *Chodosh code 2264 (226 day of year, 4=year+3). *Section 9.6 Baby Food* *ד **Beechnut* baby food Chodosh packing date Jul 26, Chodosh code 1726 (1=year, 7=month, 26=day. For the month 1-9 are Jan-Sept, Oct=O, Nov=Y, Dec=Z). For wheat the Chodosh packing date is Aug 15, code 1815. *ד **Gerber *baby foods. The date on the package is glass jars 2 years, plastic jars 15 months. For oats, the Chodosh code is Jul 26 13 for the glass jars, Oct 26 12 for the plastic jars. For wheat these codes are Aug 15 13 and Nov 15 12. Puff Baby Food Chodosh code Oct 26 12 if it contains oats, Nov 15 12 if it does not contain oats but contains wheat. *Section 10.4 Vitamins* *ד Freeda* vitamins may contain oats, the Chodosh code is Jul 11 (month of packing.) *Section 12.1.2 Wholesale Bakeries-New York City area* *א **Fifteenth Ave Food Corporation* and all its brand of baked products under the labels of Korn, Sterns, Kohen and New York Kosher. Every item produced by this company is Yoshon, without exception. *Section 12.1.4 Restaurants and pizza shops-Brooklyn* *ס **Blueberry Café, * 1618 Ave M Brooklyn, no longer certified Yoshon by the Kof-K. *ס **Ave P Appetizer*, 460 Ave P is no longer under the hashgocho of Kehila Kashrus. Not recommended until hashgocho clarified. *Section 12.1.5 Queens* *ב **Main Street Bagels* everything yoshon except All baguettes Muffins Crousants Croutons for Salads. Under the hashgocho of the Vaad Harabonim of Queens. *Section 12.2 Monsey* *א **Rockland Kosher* Everything baked in the store is Yoshon under the hashgocho of Rabbi Polatsek. *Section 13.3 California* *ס **Love Bakery*, Los Angeles P is no longer under the hashgocho of the RCC. Not recommended until hashgocho clarified. *Section 13.5 Chicago* *ב **EJ Kosher Pizza*, only the pizza is Yoshon and only on special request, under the hashgocho of the CRC of Chicago. *Section 15.2 Canada* *ב *The COR, the kashrus council in Toronto, has issued their third Yoshon Update of the season.
