In the meantime, you can go to http://build.chromium.org/buildbot/archivesand download the last tarball that was under 600 MB. That's http://build.chromium.org/buildbot/archives/chromium.r10880.tgz . You'll want to run 'gclient sync' to bring it to the latest version, as described in http://dev.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/get-the-code. It will still be much faster than syncing without getting the tarball first.
