The Omnibox defaults to using the default search engine in the list of
Search Engines. Therefore, to use a specific search provider (eg.
google.com or google.co.uk, or whichever) you need to modify the
default search engine. Here's how:

(1) Right-click the Omnibox and select "Edit search engines"

(2) If you care about the specific query string and parameters to your
current search engine (eg. Google), first click and hightlight your
current default search engine, then click Edit, hightlight and copy
the contents of the URL line, and paste it into a temporary text
file. The reason is that the usually default Google search engine
sometimes does not allow it to be edited. Then "Cancel" back to the
Search Engines list.

(3) If you want to modify your Google search engine but it is also the
default, sometimes it is not editable. The easiest way I find to get
around this is to first click and highlight another search engine and
make that the default by clicking "Make Default".

(4) Click and highlight the Google search engine that is giving you
problems and "Remove" it.

(5) Check if you have any other Google search engines with the keyword
you want to use by looking under the Keyword column. If there are,
you can just click, highlight, and "Edit" that one. If not, click
"Add" to create a new one.

(6) The Name entry can be anything. The Keyword entry is used to
trigger the search. If you're setting up for google.com search, enter
"google.com"; if you want google.co.uk search, enter "google.co.uk".

(7) In the URL entry, make sure the search URL starts with the Google
search you want to use and don't use {google:baseURL}. You can also
add in any specific search parameters you saved from the temporary
text file. For example, the simplest Google search queries are:
http://www.google.com/search?q=%s
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%s
Then click "OK" to save the search engine.

(8) Click and highlight your updated search engine and click "Make
Default" for it to be automatically used by the Omnibox search. Then
"Close" the search engine list.
