One thing i can certainly agree on is moving away from any crap in Windows. Depending on the W API is just very bad. I'm sure people know of the horrors they caused with DLL Hell previously thanks to their awful documentation, which still haunts people today might i add. (i had 2 cases in the past couple weeks where DLLs were getting replaced to install things...)
