That sounds like there might be a problem with the video encoder you're using if all of those applications crash. To what format are you rendering? What happens if you try a different format?

Try running Cinelerra (or any of the other applications) from a command line so you can see its output when it crashes. That should give you a good idea about what's going wrong.

It doesn't matter, I have tried 3 0r 4 formats with the same results. I tried convert a couple files in FFmpeg and that seems to work without crashing. I am crashing Ubuntu. I don't know how to get the information on restart using using the terminal. Is the info stored on the drive when the whole computer shuts down and how can I get to it? Doug
