If you are on a switch check the counters for errors.
The most common network problems are due to cabling/NIC issues.

Make sure both sides (the server and the switch) are the same speed and
duplex. Make sure you are using CAT5 cable and it is "colored" properly.
This actually is the cause of many problems in networks where techs build
there own cables.

There is a Standard for 100baseT in the way you plug your wires into RJ45
ends.
(You can find it on the EIA/TIA site forget the url) It is : 1.white-orange
2. orange 3. white-green 4. blue 5.blue-white 6. green 7. brown white 8.
brown
This keeps transmit and recieve as far away from each other as possible
along the cable.

Check utilization on the port. If it is highly utilized consider adding
another NIC.

Check the Performance of your Server.

If you cannot find anything in the Cabling check the NIC. Maybe change it.

Since these are all very easy to do I suggest them first (minus the NIC).

Subject: slowness in network ?? how to cure?? help!!

Hi.. Dear Friends,

I have a two question to ask

1)If the users complained that they are facing slowness to access a
particular server? and I traced the LAN cable of the server and it is
connected to one port of the switches. then we telnet to the switches to
take a look ? But what we support to look into?? and what can we do to
cure the slowness.

Tong
