A small extra note on this is that the upgrade exam can only be taken once,
so he could end up taking 8 exams or more if he does not pass it the first
time.

At an expo somewhere in Europe they had the upgrade exam running for free,
and NOONE passed it.

Then again, the upgrade exam contains information about 7 other exams (4 NT
4 & 3 W2K) so you'd better know it all before you take it.

I have not decided if I want to go any further with my MS cert's - right now
I am concentrating on Cisco and think that MS should go dig a big hole and
hide down there. I do not agree 100% with the way they think.

Just my $.02,

Ole

The only way your friend will get MCSE 2000 with 4 exams is if he already
has passed the NT 4.0 core exams.

Then he would be allowed to take the upgrade exam.

Then he would need 1 additional compulsory core and 2 electives for the
minimum of 4 exams to achieve MCSE 2000.

If he doesn't have the 4 NT 4.0 core exams he then must take 7 exams.

So if your friend is just getting into networking I don't think he has the
NT 4.0 core exams and therefore he cannot get MCSE 2000 by passing only 4
exams.

He should check the fine print!
