console 5500

I am trying to get a console on a 5500 switch.   When I bring up hyper term I am not getting anything.  Occasionally I will get unintelligble items appear in the window.   I have tried com1 com2 com3 bps 9600 flowcontrol hardware,none,xonxoff as well as different cables all the lights on the switch are green   Any help would be greatly appreciated
