I have tried both cables witha variety of connecting adapters.   I did manage to start getting data in the hyperterm window using an ethernet cable.  But the data I get is garbled, no text.  I assume I have the right physical elements in place, I just need to figure out where the data is getting garbled.  I have tried several setting with flow control but nothing has changed.

Any more help is greatly appreciatted

whant kind of supervisor are you using ?

if it is sup II , you can use normal rollover cable.
But, if it is sup III , you must use straight-ahead cable (comes along with Cat5500 , a yellow cable)

good luck

Subject: console 5500

I am trying to get a console on a 5500 switch.

When I bring up hyper term I am not getting anything.  Occasionally I will get unintelligble items appear in the window.

I have tried
com1 com2 com3
bps 9600
flowcontrol hardware,none,xonxoff
as well as different cables
all the lights on the switch are green

Any help would be greatly appreciated
