Brain,

I had the same problem a few days ago. This is a tricky one!! It could be
one of two things: Either the physical Flash modules are not the same
memory size or Flash image is corrupted.

For me it was the first one. Originally when I purchased the Router and it
was working fine until I decided to upgrade it to a newer version of
Enterprise IOS. I did not make a backup copy of the original IOS from the
Router. Silly me !! When I did upgrade the Enterprise IOS to a newer
version it kept going to Router(boot) mode. I tried to load several
different IOS versions onto the router varying from 3MB to 13MB in flash
image size but still the same problem. I then did a "show version" and the
router mentioned it had 16MB Flash memory. After spending most of the night
trying to work out the problem I decided to open the router and check both
Flash modules separately. The first module was 8MB and the second was 4MB.
My image size was 13MB. But when I did a "show version" it showed 16MB of
flash. Confused ?? Don't ask me why ! Since I had some spare flash
modules laying around I replaced the 4MB with 8MB. Flash was 16MB.
Booted up the router and installed the Enterprise IOS again. Golden !! It
worked.

Solution: Try loading the original IOS back onto the Router. If this
doesn't work load an IOS smaller then your Flash memory size. If still no
luck check the Flash modules separately.

Hope this helps...

Ash

Subject: (boot) mode?

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has come across a router where the hostname
showed up as such:

                   Router(boot)#

one of my peers has told me this means the router did not fully boot up. Is
this true? Boot mode is what he called it. Any help is much appreciated in
advance.
