You need to connect your standard cisco rolled console cable to a serial
port, not a parallel port. On the 3000 side, you'll probably want to use
the RJ45-DB25 adapter marked "modem", not "terminal". On the PC side, an
RJ45-DB9 adapter is probably what you're after.
Your other option is to use a standard straight through serial cable, which
will also work perfectly fine. PC serial cables that are DB9 female on one
end and DB25 male on the other are fairly common.
