If you are thinking in terms of 2500 series routers, each of them is one
"rack unit RU". Approx 1.75". The fan unit is on the bottom so some space is
necessary for air flow. Consider cable management issues - both LAN/WAN and
power cables.
Depending on your circumstances it might be better to have two smaller cases
rather than one large one. They can be hidden under a table. Also easier to
move.
